We will endeavour to do our very best for the children in their first years at school and to make this time as happy and productive as possible.

Science

As a core subject, science plays an important part in our school curriculum:

Reception: Science based tasks are approached through discovery and structured play, with adults encouraging close observation and discussion.

Years 1 and 2: A published scheme of work is followed to ensure progression and continuity of skills, knowledge and understanding. Throughout the school we adopt a 'hands-on' practical approach to the teaching and learning of science. Children are encouraged to ask questions, to plan and carry out investigations and then to consider and evaluate evidence in order to develop their scientific enquiry skills.

Environmental Area: We are very fortunate to have a wonderful environmental area on the school site, which is home to badgers, foxes, frogs, many insects, birds and a wide variety of trees and flowers. All children use this area for curriculum work as well as science activity days.
