SEN
SEN: Special Educational Needs
Every child in our school is treated as an individual and are given the opportunity to develop their ability. Parents/carers are contacted by the Class teacher as soon as a child appears to have difficulty, so that home and school can work in unison in the best interests of the child.
SENCO - Special Educational Needs Coordinator
We have a SENCO teacher who facilitates support for SEN children and liaises with outside agencies e.g. Speech and Language Therapy as well as overseeing the SEN provision within the school.
Difficulties
Children who are having difficulty with some aspects of learning are given an Individual Education Plan (IEP) under the Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs. The plan is written by the class teacher and the SENCO teacher, then discussed with the parent/carer at an agreed review date. The child will receive regular support from a learning support worker as well as differentiated work within the classroom. If a child's needs cannot be met successfully within the school, the Local Authority SEN services will be called upon for help and guidance and the child put onto School Action Plus of the Code of Practice.
